Product Ideas Lesson #4 - How Do You Know If Your Idea Will Work?

You can research, you can hunt forums, you can do polls, you can
call customers directly to get their opinions, and when it's all
said and done, there's still only one way to know for a fact if
your idea will work or not, and that's to try it. You can,
however, do some preliminary research to give you an indication
of whether or not you've got a winner.

Here are 6 surefire ways to see if you're heading the right
direction...

1. Google the keyword or keyphrase related to the product
you'll be creating. If you see plenty of Google ads running in
the sidebar then it's a good indication that people want what
you'll be making. Repeat this process with Bing and Yahoo to
confirm this.

2. Go to Amazon and see if there are books, Kindle books, CDs
and videos with similar topics as your info product. Are they
selling? Use the feedback to see how well it's selling and use
the negative feedback as criticism to help you create a better
product.

3. Check transparent digital marketplaces like JVZoo and
Clickbank to see if you can find similar products with high
sales records and high gravity scores. Check the websites of
these products and observe both what they're doing and how well
they're doing.

4. Search eBay for similar products. eBay is a buyers market and
people are purchasing physical products. So if you're selling a
digital product and there's a CD/DVD version that's selling,
make a mental note that you can offer a physical version of your
digital product as an upsell or order bump.

5. Use the Google Keyword Planner and find out how many people
are searching for your topic and how strong or weak the
competition is and which medium volume, low competition keywords
you'd like to rank first page for.

6. Use Alexa to check up on your future competitor's traffic
if their site is a ghost town, keep looking for one that's
getting traffic so you can get confirmation that a product like
yours is actually selling.

Note: Spending a great deal of time analyzing your research
is going to create something we call the paralysis of analysis.
Do your research and then make a decision on whether or not you
will move forward on your topic. Don't get caught in the
quagmire of indecision that leads to doing absolutely nothing.
